I love Susan Lerner's story of how she became a collage artist after a long career as a Flavor Chemist, and how her expressive works burst with playful energy and whimsy. This year, one of her collages titled, Theatre District, was chosen by JiggyPuzzles and 1200 copies of the puzzle were sold during quarantine.

Susan was longing for an outlet to express herself and relieve the anxiety of caring for an aging parent with dementia.  On a whim, a few years ago she took a collage class at the 92 Street Y in NYC and the minute she picked up a straight edge, she says she instantly fell in love with the medium. In the last few years, Susan has had the opportunity to exhibit her work in over 20 group shows, including Brooklyn and Chelsea, NY; Edinburgh, Scotland and Wiesbaden, Germany and has had solo exhibits in New York City and Northwestern Connecticut.

It was terrific to visit Susan in her serene Connecticut home studio last week. A long winding path peacefully brings you through the woods and ends at her beautiful home that was built on blasted rocky land overlooking the rolling hills of Litchfield County. Like many artists during quarantine, the loss of personal quiet time with a bustling house of family changed the way she usually creates her works. Never the less, Susan's time during quarantine has not slowed down her creative process. Susan used her studio time to cut and organize many of the images from vintage magazines and photographs that she will use in new compositions. Many new bristol boards with her signature punch of colorful and attractive images were laid out during my visit. It is so exciting to see her selection of images in the process! Her works make perfect gifts and add a fresh punch of color and thought to any art collection. She also works on commissions, if you have a theme you would like to discuss with her, send us an email at info@katharinealtadonna.com

I am thrilled to show Susan Lerner's collages in my online gallery, her works are full of treasures!
