So what do all of these places, Houston, Texas, Cleveland, Ohio, Pinetop-Lakeside, Arizona, Abu Dhabi and McIndoe Falls, Vermont have in common? They are just some of the cities and towns that landscape artist and crime novel author, Trevor Holliday, has lived and worked. Trevor and I connected virtually a few months ago to talk about art, Cleveland, and our shared love of New England. My first impression of his gorgeous landscapes made me think of Paul Cezanne's Mont Sainte-Victoire paintings. Although, Trevor tips his hat and brushes to the influence of the Taos Society of Artists and the Canadian Group of Seven, I also see his solid brushstrokes meticulously arranged (like his words in his crime novel, Trinity Thinks Twice) to be concise and intentional to form the outlines of his subjects. His paintings are a visual companion to every English Major's copy of Strunk & White; perfectly composed and balanced. His subdued color palette, broad confident brush strokes and choice of subjects, all share a story telling quality that pulls you into his work. I am thrilled to be adding Trevor Holliday (and soon his wife Carolyn too) to my online gallery and to be sharing his love of art and landscapes with you.

Trevor Holliday/ Artist and Novelist

Born in Houston, Texas, Trevor Holliday was raised in northern Maine and northeastern Ohio. He has drawn and painted all of his life. After serving in Korea and Turkey in the army, Trevor majored in creative writing at the University of Arizona. He and his wife Carolyn raised their family in northern Arizona on the Mogollon Rim.

After a career teaching in Pinetop-Lakeside, Arizona he taught English in Abu

Dhabi for five years and was able to travel extensively during those years.

Trevor’s paintings have been included the last two years in juried shows at the Catamount Center for the Arts in St. Johnsbury, Vermont and his works are displayed by E. Rachel Hochman in Woodstock, Vermont.

While in Abu Dhabi, his photographs were displayed in the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Arizona.

Trevor has always enjoyed painting landscapes and is particularly influenced by the Taos Society of Artists, especially Gustave Baumann and Gerald Cassidy and the Canadian Group of Seven, in particular the works of A.Y. Jackson and Tom Tomson.

Trevor and his wife live in Vermont, where his family has deep roots. The Northeast Kingdom of Vermont offers a great reward for the landscape artist.
